Tod Dorozio B.Mus. (UofT), M.Mus. (UBC)

August 22, 2024 By

Tod Dorozio is a classical guitarist, composer and teacher hailing from Vancouver, B.C.; who plied his trade in Toronto, Ontario for 22 years (1999-2021).  Tod has been published 8 times with Canadian guitar publisher, Les Productions d’OZ, has recorded a CD of original compositions featuring the classical guitar (‘An Uncultured Pearl’), has toured across Ontario and Western Canada and has worked extensively with music agent, Siegel Entertainment Ltd., successfully fulfilling multiple guitar Christmas music contracts at the prestigious Fairmont Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto from 2012-2015.

As a classical guitar teacher, Tod has worked both as a private and studio  classical guitar teacher in Markham (Pro-Music Conservatory), North York (Conservatory of Dance & Music) and Toronto, Ontario for two decades.  Tod has received international citations from classical guitarists and guitarist/composers around the world including, Remi Boucher (Quebec), Andrew Zohn (New York), Maximo Pujol (Argentina), Pavel Steidl (Czech Republic), Howard Wallach (Toronto/USA), and legends Christopher Parkening (USA) and Andy Summers (The Police).  In addition, Tod holds a Music Diploma from Vancouver Community College (Composition major, Guitar minor – 2000), a BMus from the University of Toronto (Guitar major, Composition minor – 2022), and a MMus from the University of British Columbia (Guitar Performance – 2024).

Tod’s classical guitar teaching style is rooted in a deep desire to instill a love of music-learning, music-making and music-sharing in his students!  To this end, his approach is anchored in helping students establish both a fantastic classical guitar technique and an equally important expressive, performance style. This is achieved, in part, by selecting music that inspires, challenges and motivates his students.  Lessons will also include the core elements of sight-reading, teacher-student duet playing, fingerboard theory and where applicable, improvisation and ear-training and above all else: working on, polishing, memorizing and actually making music to enjoy and share with others!

Tod also enjoys walks with his wife Catherine in the UBC Endowmentlands and watching classic films and t.v. series (ie. Clone Wars, Rocky & Spiderman) with his three teens.
